TREATMENT

Treatments at ChiroCare are half an hour in duration!

The reasoning for this is simple

  1. We have longer to listen to you the patient.
  2. We have longer to advise you on things like, returning to exercise, coping strategies for everyday life, how to adjust your car seat to avoid feeling stiff getting out of it, your diet and nutritional supplements, your workplace ergonomics.... and many other, sometimes, crucial pieces of advice that can minimize your pain and the chances of it returning.
  3. We can take time to fully relax and stretch out the muscles that if not treated will cause joints to just seize up and become painful time and time again.
  4. We can tailor your exercises to your specific stage of recovery from 'pain-relieving' to 'long-term stabilization' which helps give you the tools you need to have the best chance of long term recovery without recurrence of the problem.
  5. We feel this gives you the best chance of getting better quicker, with fewer treatments and staying that way for longer!

Your treatment will usually involve one or more of the following techniques:

  • Manipulation- this is where a quick and usually gentle movement is used to push or pull a specific joint that may have been stiff or sore to restore its normal movement. Such seized or 'fixed' joints are a common cause of pain and muscle spasms.
  • Trigger Point Therapy- finger pressure on to muscle knots which causes the knots to release and dissolve away. Trigger points are muscle knots that can cause pain over a wide area in some cases quite remote from the muscle with the knot.
  • Mobilization - where a joint is carefully moved usually under the Chiropractors control rather than the patients, through the motion it would normally be able to achieve.
  • Stretching - not always as simple as it sounds, there are multiple specialist techniques for each muscle such as PNF and PIR. However the goal is always the same; to take a hard, short and tight muscle, take it to a longer length and get it used to being there. This can reduce 'pull' on joints and relieve significant stiffness.
  • Therapeutic massage - multiple massage techniques are used to help release tightness in the various tissues of the body including muscles, skin and ligaments. This is directed with a specific knowledge of the underlying anatomy to improve the effectiveness of the earlier part of the treatment.

Your treatments are designed to build up a cumulative effect, encouraging your body to start working better. The timing of your appointments and how they are spaced from each other will have a direct effect on how well and how quickly your treatment gets you better. You will be advised at the end of each session as to when a follow up appointment would be most effective. For people starting with a problem rather than booking in for general check ups, it is common to have a few sessions close together in the first few weeks, then, as you recover these will be spaced wider and wider apart. At ChiroCare we always endeavor to keep your treatments to a minimum and as such we space your treatment on the basis of how you are on each visit rather than being prescriptive. Hence if you are lucky enough to be a quick healer you will have fewer treatments than if you need a little more attention to get you better.
